South West Finals

Well done to all of you who made it through the qualifiers to get to the finals in July - especially to Harry for being one of the youngest (if not the youngest) to get through.  Mind you, if you all listen very carefully late at night you’ll probably be able to hear Jonathan still grinding his teeth after missing out by just 7 pins!  Apparently, he’s been seen having a quiet word with his Chemistry teacher so if you’re one of the finalists I’d be careful what you drink just before the finals!!!

Weymouth Challenge

On 7th June we host the first round of the Yeovil/Weymouth 8 pin no tap challenge.  For those of you that have joined us since last summer this will be your first chance at this event.  We hold two rounds (the second one is at Weymouth of course) with prizes for the top bowler from each centre plus one for the overall winner at each event.  We held this for the first time last year and we all thoroughly enjoyed it – especially those that made a day of it in Weymouth and took advantage of the sunshine while we were there.

The cost is the same as normal for both events and we have booked all 18 lanes for the whole morning, so let’s have a good turnout.  We may even be able to accommodate some adults if they want to join in and be shown how to bowl by their kids!!!!!

This Saturday – 30th May

Just to let you know…..Last week saw one of our lowest turnouts for weeks.  With so many of you away for the (very wet) weekend we should have given the league a miss for one week – but hindsight is a wonderful thing!  So we have decided to play catch-up this week.  The majority of you have at least one set of games to make up, so that is just what we’ll do this Saturday.  This should save the parents having to shell out for double bowling.  For the few of you that are up to date then we’ll simply put a set of games in reserve for the future.

It has been suggested that we should have one or two dates put to one side each season just to give you a chance to hold some in reserve or make up a missing week.  I know that the set of games that we had at the beginning of the season certainly helped Andy as the season progressed, so I think this could be a good idea.  We’ll discuss this among the committee before the summer break and keep you informed of our plans.

Rhys Update

As most of you know, Rhys Powell has not been at all well lately and has been missing from our lineup for quite a while now.  Unfortunately, Rhys was diagnosed with Leukaemia at a very young age and had fought it off in the past only to have it raise it’s ugly head again earlier this year.  Well now the good news.  A bone marrow donor was found (in America) with a very close match to his own marrow and last Friday (23rd) Rhys had his transplant.  Everything is on schedule but the Doctors will not know for a few weeks if this has taken, we can only cross our fingers and hope!!!

Rhys has his own online blogg which can be found on http://treatingrhys.wordpress.com. or go through Andys’ website and there is an excellent link to it from there.  If you log on and look at the blog for Monday May 26th (Rhys’ World) you’ll all see what he has to look forward to for the next six to eight weeks via a video tour of his room.  For those of you who have access to the world wide web please click on the comments tab (there’s one on every blog) and leave him a message.  Just put yourself in his place and ask yourself if you would like to go through what he has had to endure.  A few words from his mates will make all the difference in the next few weeks, so please make the effort.  You don’t need to make up loads and loads – just a few words of support to let him know we all care.

Thank you

Keep it between the grey bits
